I'm a born again crock-potter:D Last night I cooked a ham, ready to slice with the hand slicer I acquired from my parents. Then this morning I put on a bolognaise sauce in my bigger pot, with a brocolli and leek soup in the little one (also acquired from mum).

I wonder if I can find a crock-pot that can do the hoovering and put on the washing.:D Maybe I'll just have to find myself a MATH

I've just invested in a new 6.5 litre slow cooker (£25 in the argos sale) because the old one was burning anything on the bottom.

It still works, it just seems stick and burn stuff. Do I just throw it out or is there anything I could use it for that it wouldn't ruin?

Unfortunately yes, it only has 3 settings, high, auto and low and I only ever cook on the low setting.

I can't complain really, it has served me well for 8 years and that was after buying it second hand at a car boot sale :D

what make is it? not a swan one is it?

have you tried very liquidy things and not putting in too much in the way of root veggies.

dunno if it would work lining the crock with foil or even putting a pyrex lid on the bottom to add a bit of insulation - is it worth a shot?

I have an old slow cooker and although it warms up ,because the light does not come on recently ,I am beginning to worry that I might end up poisoning us all. It seems to take hours for light to appear.

    Any advice?

    It's a Russell Hobbs :)

I might try making a few soups in it and see what happens :)

  • Well you have all inspired me to dig out the slow cooker that was donated about 10 years ago to me that I have never used.

Is there anything I need to know re cleaning it up or any flashing lights I need to worry about???

Do I need to defrost anything b4 cooking or do I chuck it all in??
    I want to...........?

The thing that takes the longest time to cook is root vegetables and although not always pleasant raw they won't poison you. Use ya root veg as an indication when the dish is fully cooked, if the tatties are soft the meat will have been cooked yonks ago and all will be safe to eat. The only other thing to remember is to pre-boil red kidney beans cos they can make you gip if you don't but tinned ones are safe to just bung in.
