EDF Energy

Not sure if anyone can help with this but i will fire away, i have recently sold my property and a offered had been accepted on a new property. I contact EDF with my final meter readings but made them aware that i would not be moving into the new property untill approx 4 weeks time. In this 4 weeks time everything possible has gone wrong and we are still not in this property due to a debt being registered on the land of the house!! Grrrr. I received a letter to ask for meter reading as from the 5/11/12 they would be supplying electricity and in a couple of weeks they would also be suppling the gas, i made them aware that i was not in the property so i would not be able to provide a meter reading, not only were they very rude and told me that they could not do anything about this as i was now legally bound by a contract when i phoned up approx 4 weeks ago and agreed to the switch over. And would have to provide a meter reading.

Has anyone had any thing along the same lines as this, as it may turn out that we purchase a different property altogether in hinesight maybe i should have waited untill we had moved in!! but never envisaged that we would have such problems.

Yes you should and TBH I think the first adviser you spoke with should have suggested that.

Regarding what to do, "they could not do anything about this as i was now legally bound by a contract when i phoned up approx 4 weeks ago and agreed to the switch over" that is an "ignorant" response, there is always "something" which can be done. Whether it is cost-free to you is another matter.

If you feel the most recent adviser has been "rude" (and "ignorant"), I suggest a formal complaint strictly in accordance with the Edf complaint's procedure.

You cannot switch your supplier from one property to another as you have attempted to do. When you do move in, you are in a deemed contract with the existing suppliers, with whom you must register before you commence a switch. Once that goes through you will have a new account with your preferred supplier.
So the adviser is talking complete nonsense. As you have not yet occupied the property or used any energy there, you are not in a contract with EDF there.
