Hi. We have a Dell Dimension 3000 XP service pack 3 1GB memory. My son wants to play Minecraft but our pc can't handle it. I want to buy a secondhand desktop pc as a replacement so could you tell me what spec I need to look out for please? I was thinking of upgrading to 2GB - the max our pc can take - but most days now Windows informs us that our virtual memory is low and I don't think the graphics card (whatever it is) is up to it or that 2GB would make the difference.
:j I hope my comment helps :T

    Minecraft's min specs are:

CPU : Intel P4/NetBurst Architecture or its AMD Equivalent (AMD K7)
    • RAM : 2GB
    • GPU : Intel GMA 950 or AMD Equivalent
    • HDD : At least 90MB for Game Core and Sound Files
    • Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 or up is required to be able to run the game.
Your desktop (Dell Dimension 3000) does not meet these specs. Although you could get the RAM to 2gb, the graphics card (integrated to the motherboard - 865G, Second generation Intel) is below the minimum required (GMA950, third generation Intel). I also believe that the Dell's motherboard does not have the space to put in another seperate graphics card.

Unfortunatly it looks like you would need to get a newer machine to be able to play.
  • What budget do you have for a new or refurbished machine?

If I buy before Christmas I'll only spend about £150 max. If I wait until after Christmas - maybe £250 max. Obviously it's a 2nd hand or refurb pc I'm after.

I notice that a lot of the cheap ones on eBay are running Windows XP as opposed to Windows 7.

  • Sorry for the late reply but have a look at the Dell outlet
