Have to try the jobcentre, I never actually thought about that. ECDL is a very handy little thing to have, even though I have over two years experience in a government role, people STILL demand I have it :rotfl:

I did mine about 2 years ago while i was on benefits, ask at jobcentre
  • I have just begun training for the ecdl with learn direct. It is costing me £35 per module (there are 7 modules), plus i have just paid £25 for the log book. I am claming JSA at the mo and have been told that because i am on contributions based JSA i cannot receive any help with the cost. If anyone knows how i can cut down the cost i would be grateful.
  • If you work for the MOD military or civy its now free

You can get your logbook and take it to another ECDL centre: you don't have to stay with the centre that registered you.

You may find that you can take the tests at your local library if they are registered as a testing centre. Then it could just cost you the price of the tests and not the course material. This is helpful if you actually are capable but just want the piece of paper (and card). Ask at your library to see what they can offer.

i actully learned quite a lot from the ecdl training courses, even when i am already using computer for a long long time and familiar with all the basics, there are new things that i never used or realised, it actually makes my work more efficient and enjoyable. so it is not just the qualification, but the training is also very useful.

there are some advanced qualification after u passed the basics, but i did not pursuit further, maybe i should..

    hi There

I've just completed one ecdl course (not the advanced one) Just out of curiosity, do potential employers really regard this as a real qualification? I am only asking because I learnt very little whilst doing the course (I have already completed the CLAIT certificate and diploma since September)

    Regards

I have also completed an ECDl course and current doing C&G e-quals. I think C&G course is much better than the ECDL. I have completed ECDL and also learnt very little.
