Closing Barclays Bank Account will have effect on Barclaycard?

Hi there,
I'm thinking to switch to 1st Direct bank account, and I'm both a Barclays and Barclaycard customer.
I just wonder whether if I close my Barclays account the Barclaycard will be closed as well or they withdraw my 0% for 14 months - when I changed address with Barclays my Barclaycard record was updated automatically but I'm not sure if those accounts are so strictly linked.
Thanks a lot

Barclaycard won't give a toss that you've closed a Barclays Bank account.0

You don't have to close the Barclays account just because you switched.0

they are unrelated in the terms you are thinking of as Barclays is a 'different' company from Barclaycard, so will not affect your credit card at all.
however, if you were to default on your barclaycard then your barclays current acccount would be raided asap, as there are some legal linkage between them still.
speaking from experience here about the account raiding...0 -
Thanks ratherinv, I'm not defaulted, I'm under my credit limit and paying fixed amount - just regular use of the card0

Well they are, and they aren't. Barclaycards are provided and underwitten by Barclays Bank Plc. The distinction between the two is mostly a branding issue. Barclays is quite unique in that it's pretty much the only major UK retail bank that has a huge proportion of non-current account customers on their credit-card books (of course some banks secretly underwite other major cards, but this fact isn't used in their marketing).
If you're a Barclays bank customer, there is a bit of linkage between your current account and your Barclaycard. Staff can see your card, its balance, etc., or can intice you to apply for a card if you don't already have one - your current account can be used as an indicator for Barclaycard pre-selection. They have less to do with the nitty-gritty of the card, like its credit limit, or what to do if you have difficulties, and so on. Barclaycard staff, though, have nothing at all to do with your Barclays current account, if you have one.however, if you were to default on your barclaycard then your barclays current acccount would be raided asap
Ohh, yes it sure will!! :rotfl:0
