Canon Powershot problem

I am using a Canon Powershot at work (sorry can't remember the model number!)
It switches on and will take a photo but the downloaded photo is black and when I press display it also looks black
I can't see anything in the manual explaining this problem - my only thought was that the shutter is jammed shut but when you switch it on the lens pops out so I presumed the shutter opened - can't really see into the lens to see if it is open or shut - if that makes sense
The mind is like a parachute. It doesn’t work unless it’s open.:o

    Have you removed the lens cap?

    I can't post links but it sounds like a stuck shutter.

    There may be a problem with the model, something mentioned here

    Worth searching a camera forum to see if its a know issue and if Canon have done a recall for your model. I had a diffrent issue with a 4 year old powershot a couple of years ago and Canon fixed it for free as it was a known issue with that model.

    If not you could try the below;

    I had an A70. It developed a sensor problem which Canon repaired FOC but that was about four years ago!

    Does this help? http://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/36871/My+camera+takes+black+pictures.+How+do+I+fix+it
