Just had a quick scan of the posts - are you paying council tax on the property ?.
If you are then you shouldn't be as the property is a council tax HMO and the landlord is responsible for the council tax.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
Out of interest, what does the 'contract' document say about giving notice?
I wonder whether, as what you want is to leave early, there is any merit in going along with his pretence that you are a lodger ... which would mean that you probably 'could'nt' be tied in to the six months ... ?
Legally both you and he would be wrong, but there may be merit in saying that he can't have it both ways? What do other posters think?
Of course, if he refuses to allow you to leave, then you do what everyone else has already suggested - follow up the legalities by requiring him to lodge your deposit etc. And of course you can still report him after leaving, anyway.0
