Redundancy Planning....

Hi all,

Just a question or two on this :

There's a chance I could be made redundant in a month or so.

I live in rented accomodation (I also have a mortgage on a house elsewhere, which is rented out to tenants)

I've been in my rented house since march - When I moved in I had to set up various utilities on time-fixed contracts ie 12 months Broadband, 18 months Electric/Gas etc. One option for me is to move into my parents house with them, to save losing a long-term tenant in my own property.

What are the implications on the utilities etc if/when I move? Its not as if i'm moving addresses and carrying on the account - I'm stopping paying those bills altogether.

Anyone been through this?

Also I just read that if you own a property and live in rented that any potential housing benefit I might be due are not applicable because I own a house?

Gas and electric won't be a problem if you are leaving the property otherwise people would only ever be able to move when out of contract - or at least thats the way it used to be but double check the T&C's.

Broadband generally is different - they are more like mobile phone contracts and they will hold you to the contract regardless of where you live and expect you to pay off the remainder of the contract.

At least that was my experience
