Hi,
I do my shopping online as its difficult for me to get out most of the time but I still need to cut back on food bills. I was wondering if you can give me some tips on which supermarket (that delivers) has the best value brands and if there any products I need to avoid.

I'm trying so hard to be thrifty, but it doesn't come naturally. You lot are an inspiration!

Might help you to use this website. So many foods are down to personal taste. This site at least gives you a description.

My partner (who is a biscuit fiend) insists that Asda smartprice is the best for biscuits - better than mcvities or any of the main brands let alone other SM value ranges.
Beyond that, the value stuff seems pretty much of a muchness to our tastes...0 -
Tinned stuff like tomatoes and beans i would say Sainsburys. Asda tinned stuff i have tried has been rubbish.0

For the value brands I would say Sainsburys have been the best I've tried. Still cheap but pretty good on flavour, and the basics veg can be really nice too.0

Tesco's and Morrisons seem to have the biggest variety of low price/own brand goods from what I have seen but also reasonable offers on known brands..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Tesco smartprice fruit squash is noce, as is their tinned sweetcorn and tuna, I also use their tinned tomatoes and fresh juice from concentrate, their cheese isn't too bad either. I'll try and remember what else I buy but so far most of it has been a success cos the OH hasn't noticed we're on the cheaper stuff yet!Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!? :huh:0

\there used to be a list of good/ not so good own brands on the food shopping thread I think. I'm not sure how to do a link but if you go to the shopping part of the forum, someone will hopefully send you the link

I started buying things like value crumpets from sainsburys, as the cheap ones didn't have milk powder (dd was intolerant), and it's just escalated from there.
I prefer the sainsburys ones but Asda ok too.Bossymoo
