Hi folks,
Installed windows 8 and it seems (though it does install a driver digitally signed by microsoft) that my existing ATI Radeon HD 4600 graphics card is no longer compatable to running stuff like Second Life etc, I have tried compatability mode but no good.
I get a message to go to AMD to download a newer driver but they have only one driver compatable with windows 8 and they now consider the 4000 series that I have (pc is less than 3 years old) to be a legacy product. So no joy there.
Just wondering (though I will wait a while) what is the best cheapest card to get that will probably run Second Life and similar programes?
Would the ATI 5000 series be a good enough bet as they seems cheap on enough on places like ebay?
I have an Mainboard : Asus M4A785TD-V EVO
Chipset : AMD 785G
Processor : AMD Phenom II X4 945e @ 3000 MHz
Physical Memory : 4096 MB (2 x 2048 DDR3-SDRAM )
Video Card : ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series
Any advice appreciated.
Many Thanks

Try a windows 7 driver for your card first.

I have a relatively old amd (ati) gfx card with the W8 generic driver it showed 2.3 on the Windows experience. I copied the the Vista driver (which was the latest for that card) updated it and it gave me 4.7 and I could use some of the old stuff. Nothing to lose by trying...Try a windows 7 driver for your card first.

For any hardware, if you can't find a Win8 driver, look for a Win7 driver. If you don't find that, try a Vista one. These should all work OK (watch out for 32/64 bit but should still be fine). If none of these are available, a WinXP driver could work, or even a Win2000 one, but that's about it. Covers you for most things you'd want to connect!0
