Do I really need a new boiler?

Thats a good point. I wouldnt have thought there should be fumes inside the caseing anyway. In the chamber yes - but outside the chamber yet in the case? no.
Cant do anything regards warente repair or boiler company i wouldnt think as the damage has been caused by an external issue - ie a leak from a pipe outside the boiler.0 -
Hi, its a Potterton Suprima 60.0
-
If it's in the combustion chamber, how is it possible to shine a torch through it from the other side?
So where is the hole?0 -
Call Baxi, Heat Team, and ask if their £300 fixed price repair covers it.
I can't see why not.0 -
Why can't you remove the front panel and take a pic? You are not dismantling any of the working parts by doing so. It's just a clipped-on light steel panel. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

macman - OK I'll try to get the front off and see if I can take a picture.
gas4you - thanks for that suggestion, I'll look into that.
Gloomendoom - that looks like it. The hole (and the rust/corrosion) is in the very top left corner, at the back. The hole was visible when the plumber slid his illuminated phone behind the unit.
I'm not sure if that is a hole in the "combustion chamber" or not, but it looks like it to me, assuming the gas comes out of the structure at the botton, and vents out of the top, then fumes could get out the hole...0 -

If the hole is in the casing where the red arrow is pointing, I think you most definitely need a second opinion.0 -
Gloomendoom, its more or less there, but right into the back angle, a bit more right and up compared with your arrow.
Cheers for your help, but why would you say I definitely need a second opinion? What has that told you? Is that not in the combustion chamber?0 -
The combustion chamber is the grey lump towards the bottom , this is the sealed chamber to contain the nasties. The casing above is not room sealed but is decorative to hide the innards, How can a hole in this pose a risk to anyone.
I had one of these boilers and the casing front just lifts off and you then see the boiler as illustrated..You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0 -
I have to say, forums like this were made for threads such as this. Excellent thread for the OP.
Hopefully someone will as a result save a small fortune and a con-merchant gets named and shamed!!0
