ok i dive a 98 nissan almera and have 4yr no claims but am getting high quotes when i try and insure this with a value less than £600, i know that if the car was to be written of i would only get market value(100-200 if im lucky)

where do you stand on valuing your car?

(i have done alot of work on it/ this year prob about £600)

Comments

  • probably 95% of people over value their vehicle.

I am surprised that any legal, MOT'ed and taxed car is worth only £100, a quick look online at the basic model, 1.4 engine and 80,000 miles comes back as £400 private sale
  • yeah i valued it at £400 and got hight quotes but if i value it at £600 it knocks over 100 off the quote ....
  • Assuming you've been putting in genuine data then you have the potential issue that the insurers can see you've been playing with the valuation and thus could bring up a concern on if you are manipulating the data to artificially lower the premium.

If you've been using dummy data then this problem doesnt exist and you just could claim to think it was a fair value for it.

What is the exact model, does it have any mods and what mileage approx does it have?
  • woops on the data front... yeah its a 1.4 no mods with abot 80000 on the clock
