£15 a week for two people?

I only get paid £40 a week, and can only afford £15 for both of us. I Just done a weeks shopping that came up to £12, but that was only for one person (trying to see if it'll stretch out to a week for the both of us) Any help would be great! thanks.

try buying own brand stuff like pasta, spaghetti, chopped toms, frozen veg, frozen meat, canned goods. when my hubby lost his job we downsized to own brand and have never looked back. trust me no one can tell the difference if the food is cooked with love.

and also some old style clever cooking can help you tons - i always go to my fail safe recipes when times are really tough - yellow lentils(80p+ per 500g) to make lentil wedges, rice (40p a kg), frozen veg(75p a kg) to make fried rice, or chilli with lentils, mushrooms and kidney beans (18p a can). like meg72 says have a look on the old style forums. good luck.

Keep an eye out for mince quorn on offer, as you can use this as a cheap form of mince. Add lentils to bulk out and freeze. Cheap way to make shepherds pie, spagetti bolognese etc

This is doable there is a feed 2 for £7 thread over in oldsytle which may help.

Do you have acess to a freezer? i'd def recommend batch cooking if you do.

Try stock up on reduced food but only if you'll use it, i got 2 quiches for 15p each and a fullsized apple pie for 22p on sunday, with a bag of spuds and some cheap veg this could easily feed 2 for a few days.

Don't forget about porrudge it's very cheap and can be made with water, rice and pasta are also cheap and very filling.

  • I have always made porridge with water 1 cup of oats to two cups of water stir slowly until it thickens.takes about 3-4 minutes if its too thick just pour a little more water in.I have never bought 'instant porridge' as I think its just a waste of cash how quick do you need to cook porridge for goodness sake
  • Why is your income so low? What does the other person earn?
Are you entitled to any benefits or can either of you work more hours?
  • My income has stopped as i've lost my job, boyfriends income is £740 a month, he gets DLA and JSA. His money was stopped for a month, hence the reason why i posted this :( He's in debt so budgeting to the max right now!!!
