Which Book Keeping Software?

It looks good - never heard or used of it till nowNot sure about the free stuff. I liked the look of Solar Accounts. Just a one off payment, of £85 including VAT.
I have just been on a tour of this software and am thinking of buying it. it does pretty much everything I need. I would love to be able to ditch all the wierd and wonderful spreadsheets I currently have set up at the moment. I'll even give up chocolate for at least a week to contribute towards the quite modest cost of the software.
Has anyone else got any experience of this accounting package?

We don't use bookkeeping software. We have an invoice template in Word, then we enter that into Excel. Really does not take much effort and it works better for us than a colleague who tries to run his business accounts through Sage!!What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

You are probably going to need to employ an accountant (once-ish a year) for specialist knowledge, tax stuff and full accounts yes? If so just use Excel and clearly split stuff up so its in a format he can use.0

Thanks Miss Sarah, but I saw the word "BUY" and closed down the page. By FREE I mean completely free in all aspects. I don't want to sound like a !!!!!!!!!! (I have bought many items of software over the years including various versions of Windows and photo//audio/video editing suites. Times are hard at the moment and I would only need something basic. I'm tempted to use pen and parer but that's not as clever or as instant as being able to click mouse button and see useful facts and figures.
I'm wasting my time here am I Denla? I hope not. I thought I should ask here as there is bound to be a lot of experience of these things. Maybe you needn't have replied?
Thanks dizzyrascal. GNU is in the lead at the moment. Are you THE Dizzy Rascal?
I think you have a good point Enterprise. Perhaps I don't really need to use anything unnecessarily complicated. I thought I ought to use something which had been designed for the purpose as it would help me to understand basic book keeping - something I need to get my head around.
Free has to be free, but I see the basic Quicken is only $39. That's not out of reach. Hmmm.
Evilm: I should get in touch with the accountant I intend to use and ask him what his preferred method is for my kind of business.
Thanks again0 -

Even sole proprietors have to show clear accounts these days and it is much easier to organise if you use a package from day one.
I agree, the GNUcash looks good
It really depends on the size and type of his business , tbh for a small business you cant really go wrong with a double entry book a pencil and a rubber ! lol..........
Sage like all accounts packages is only as good as the person who enters the stuff , it wont do it all for you and you do need a good level of book keeping knowledge imo ( speaking as someone who has used it for 20 years ).And unless your business is at a size that needs it I would say its not necessaryVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
Thanks pelirocco.
I think you are right, as others have said, I only need something simple.
Sorry for the slow reply - been very busy, which is good!
Cheers all.0
