Gas safety check every 10 months now?

I just had a letter for the next appointment for my gas safety check, I thought it was a mistake as it is for this month and I have done the previous one in january. I called them and they told me that the gas safety checks are to be done every 10 months now?
I did notice previously that the appointments seem to come about one to two months before the year expires, but this time I find it a bit daft, as this year I will have 2 receipts for 2012.
And it is still described as the yearly gas safety record.
Is there a reason for them to do it every 10 months?

Th reason is that they get paid 2 months earlier each year and you end up paying for an extra check after 6 years. So they're trying it on (and probably trying to free up RGI's for repair work in the December/January peak).
The landlord's gas safety cert is required annually or on the arrival of a new tenant, nothing has changed.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

No reason whatsoever. They can do it up to a month before the expiry of the last gas safety certificate and extend the date of the last certificate a further 12 months so that the interval between checks is around 12 months.

I knew she was Bullsh1tting me, I just wanted confirmation. They have changed firm, before it was morgan and fone who was doing the gas safety check, now it's S F services limited.
It's more than a month before the expiry of the last gas certificate, the last one was done on the 13th january this year.
They got away with it this time, but next time I will insist on leaving one year between the checks.

gas certs are only valid for 12 months from the date signed. No extensions are allowed for doing it early.

They were definitely giving you bull.
