Hi
can anyone help
I attempted to return some unopened foundation today with reciept from the store my daughter purchased the product from
The person in the store called someone from the back of the shop and I was told that they did not allow returns on cosmetics
I asked why and It was explained that they had signs all over the shop to this effect
Does this effect work
I would be grateful of any advice as their attitude really annoyed me
can anyone help

You have no right to return anything to a retail shop you bought it from - this is different to Internet shopping where DSRs may apply. Any returns are only permitted if they have policies stating as such.0

Were there signs all over the shop?
Superdrug do usually advertise that they won't allow returns on opened make-up, although I've never had any trouble returning sealed goods. That is up to the shops discretion, though, and I don't believe that they have to allow it.
Why did your daughter want to return it?0 -
Was the foundation defective in any way?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

I bought two clairol hair dyes for 5.99 a couple of weeks ago. Decided to grow old disgracefully, I took them back at the weekend with no receipt, the manager kindly exchanged them. I knew I had no rights but full marks from me. If they hadnt exchanged them I would have just dropped them into the charity shop next door.
I did get a gentle reminder that if I needed to return good in future, it would be a lot better if I produced the receipt. i knew that, but it was worth a try and it worked.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
My daughter actually bought two of the same products
the one she opened she didnt like the colour and threw away
the un opened one she took back and was refused a refund
I attempted to return it for her (thinking ) they were more likely to accept this from an adult
I was wrong
The shop assistant/manager said that superdrug had a policy of not giving refunds on cosmetics
I asked why as the product was sealed and unopened0 -
They have no legal requirement to accept it as a return unless you are claiming it is not the colour that it was claimed to be (thus not as described and so faulty) however given it isnt opened there isnt evidently an argument for this.
Given you have no statutory rights to return it then it does all come down to store policy and anything they decide to do above and beyond what they legally must do.
The staff have mentioned a returns policy sign, what does this say? This will be the line on which to argue as it effectively forms part of the contract of sale. If it says it excludes cosmetics then there is no grounds for argument as its what was agreed to and well within the law.0 -
thanks to all for comments
spose it was more the attitude of the person in the shop regarding the issue
but then it is superdrug who seem to employ young usless staff with a billigerent attitude to the customer
i can only protest in one way and avoid giving them my custom in future
a lesson learnt0 -
The policy is likely there because of the risk of the product being tampered with. If you are not happy with junior staff ask to speak to a supervisor or manager.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0
