Travelodge Saver Room - reserved but not paid for in advance

Hi,
I was hoping someone might be able to advise me about this from experience - I've booked a couple of nights at a Travelodge in Manchester in January at their saver room rate. I realise this room rate doesn't allow me to receive a refund if I cancel the reservation, but when I made the booking in August, my credit card wasn't actually charged (although I had to provide the details). Assuming I was to cancel the room, would Travelodge still be able to put through a charge on my card even if I'm not there to authorise it?
Thanks

Hi, i have stayed in quite a few Travelodge's the last couple of years and have always been charged at the time of booking, have you logged on to your Travelodge account and checked that the booking actually went through - you should also have been sent an email with your confirmation as soon as the booking was complete. If this all happened i doubt you will get away with not paying as they state on their site:
How do I pay for a room?
All rooms are payable at the time of booking All payments are due in full via credit or debit card or by eVoucher where applicable at the time of booking except for same day bookings which are due on arrival. For same day bookings we require credit card details to be provided at the time of booking and we will charge the credit card for the cost of the booking if you fail to arrive.
I think the only exception on pre-paying is if you use an Amex card to reserve a room and pay on arrival but you would still be liable if you didn't turn up. Hope this helps.0 -
I have just booked a travelodge in central London for May 2013. The payment is already showing up on my online transactions. This seems to be normal practice.
As suggested above I suggest you log in and check your booking.0 -
Thanks for the replies.
I have a confirmation email and the booking is showing up in my account on the website. However, I did use an Amex card for the reservation, so that would explain why I wasn't charged in advance. I guess now that they have all my payment details, I'd be charged even if I didn't turn up.0 -
The online booking system for some reason can't process AMEX so if you use amex it just reserves the room and you pay on arrival.
The terms of the room trate mean it cannot be cancelled soyou'd still be liable for the cost. Wether they actually follow up on that I don't know.0
