home insurance mishap

hi, i was puzzled when i received a letter stating that my insurance was incorrect and would therefore be cancelled. i thought that i had done well doing it online and saving myself about £67 on my policy. i of course rand them up and found out the reason for it, now its costing me more. apparently because i rang up last year asking for help as found water in my porch, i panicked. because of this my policy was cancelled. as i found out later the person next door had watered my porch. as a result, of course, the claim was never taken up. so now i know that just ringing them up about a problem will cost me dear. now i have to pay even more, as a pensioner and on my own it has upset me so much. i hope that if anyone reads this and doesnt know what to do, to wait and check that the problem isnt the worse thing possible. at the time i thought there was a pipe problem. stupid me!!!

Surely they can remove that from your records if you explain?0

It partially depends on the quote wording, for Car it is simple as everyone says "incident" and therefore everything has to be declared. With Home however some ask about Incidents and others about Claims.
The other consideration.... when you reported the incident to your insurers last year did they take any action? Did they send anyone around to inspect the issue?0 -
hi as far as i know, no they didnt take any action. and no one came round, i explained that it was a mistake but it made no difference. because of that my 20 years of not making a claim, has now been destroyed. ive learnt my lesson, sadly, and with anger. thanks for answering my post. chrissy0

It is probably worth complaining to the insurer that it is being unfair and unreasonable.
If you do, then it is better to do so in writing. Either post it and get proof of posting (free from the Post Office) or fax it - so you get a receipt.0
