wheel stopped working on mouse

This has just happened in last 5 minutes, does anyone know how to sort out?

Mine stopped working about 2 months ago, I think it's knackered.

Have you tried taking the ball out and cleaning all the gunge off the wheely bits inside?

Nope, ignore that....that's not going to help with a wheel problem.

And if you are buying a new one, buy an optical mouse with no ball

Hmm, actually my desk is completely white and my optical mouse works great.

If I take it out my Samsung M40 and plug it into an old Apple Titanium Powerbook G4 then its not so accurate. I don't think its the surface, but the power output of the USB ports.

But light surfaces reflect more light than dark ones, that is what makes them light! I am using my mouse on a white A4 piece of paper!

And if you're going optical go wireless as well - but make sure you get a rechargeable mouse - or at least use rechargeable batteries and buy a separate charger.

There are 2 movement sensors in a mouse with a ball, they are next to the wheels that go round when the ball rotates, I had to move one of these sensors slightly nearer to one of the wheels because my cursor would not go sideways resulting in up and down movement only, works fine now.

Thanks for all the suggestions, but it seems okay now, don't know what happened last night but it seems to have righted itself when it was rebooted.

Does anyone know of a cheap but reliable wireless mouse, the last one eat the rechrgable batteries about every 2 weeks so have now reverted to the original but is not as accurate.
