electric bill made me blow a fuse

Moved in to a new 3 up 2 down semi, 2 kids (3&5) and a wife (both work full time)
2 days later I get a door collector saying there is a out standing balance for Npower
so they take down my details inc meter readings and I take over the home.
my first bill pops in at a nice £90 for my electric... (home is gas heated)
but with all the stress of a home move I thought I will catch up with it next qrt
so my bill arrives this morning at a whopping £680.
thats 6mths electric for £110pm
now in my old place I was on prepay and using about £30pm.
the only diffrence from here and my old place is a dishwasher that I am told uses 80p per day.
Is that about right for a famly of 4???
my gas is about £40pm (that is prepay)
how can electric be that high

I'm sorry, but none of this is particularly relevant.daniel.thomas wrote: »Moved in to a new 3 up 2 down semi, 2 kids (3&5) and a wife (both work full time)

So you are supplied by nPower?
What tariff are you being supplied on by them?
What was the meter reading you supplied to nPower on the day you moved in? When was this exactly?
What is the meter reading now?
What supply region are you in (or first part of your postcode)?
Only with this data can we tell you if (a) the £680 bill is correct and (b) whether or not it is reasonable.

An electric heater somewhere? Electrically heated hot water-possibly by a backup immersion left on causing the gas boiler to never heat the water? £40 a month for gas seems very low for your household.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.
