Cancelling Open University

Hi there,

Does anyone have any experience of getting an actual refund from Open University. I wish to cancel my course I am 21 days in - I paid for the course with ILA £200 and OUSBA £220 - they have said that I can withdraw and will have the £420 as a credit to use for another OU course. My problem is that I do not need another OU course as I will be going to University next year.

It seems unfair that I am left with the bill and they are not even willing to do a partial refund? I have sent a complaint but I'm not holding out much hope.

Any advice or help out there?

Thanks

They are giving you a full refund; the ILA isn't your money and you can't have paid much of the OUSBA. If they gave you a cash refund of £420 you'd be in profit!
  • I wish I could get the £420!!! I realise that! I mean how do I get out of paying the £220 back to Ousba, I've not paid them anything yet.

    I don't think they'll budge tbh.

The terms are in the agreement you signed so you can't argue you weren't aware of them.

All unis do the same, only it's a lot more than £420 with brick unis and they don't offer a credit towards other courses as a rule, I don't think.

You can get a refund before the course start date but not after. You are 21 days after so there'll be no refund.
