MOT related question - is interior required?
I've stripped out a lot of the interior of my golf to try and locate a rather bad leak but the MOT is also due this week so anyone got any idea what needs to be fitted.
Currently its mainly rear trim panels and all carpets & sound proofing thats been removed along with the centre console. Oh and the rear bench seat and passenger seat too
I'm suspecting the centre console might be required as it leaves some jaggy bits when its out but any idea on the rest?
Thanks

Have look at this...

As long as the front seats are present and secure, it looks like you should be ok.0 -
Thanks - will get the passenger seat back in before taking it down for the MOT. The garage have been pretty good in the past so will try and catch the tester when I drop the car off to explain why its in the current state0

This question was asked a few years ago on here and I asked my local MoT garage. The tester there said he wouldn't fail it as long as the drivers seat was present and secure.0
-
Thanks - it will only take a few mins to put the passenger seat back in so will probably just do it. If it fails for anything related to the missing interior I'll post an update0

I actually avoided the need to repair a rear seat belt for the MOT by just taking it back with no rear seats0

All you need in is the driver's seat and seatbelt, plus any mandatory controls (light / wiper switches, horn, steering wheel etc). Don't forget front door handles! Best to fit the rear ones as well if they're out just for tester's convenience - it's likely to irritate him if he's checking something in the back and gets shut in with no easy escape
Bear in mind that with most of the trim out he'll get a much better look at the structure than he usually would, which can be a good or bad thing depending on what the car's like0 -

Don't know if this helps but when I took my car in for an MOT I only had the backs for the rear seats in place as I'd taken out the bottom parts for another car. The MOT tester just recorded the rear seats as completely 'not present'0 -
Thanks folks - car is in very good nick apart from said leak and dodgy rear calipers which need work every year.
Also its a 3 door so no problem with back doors0 -
The leak will be coming from the pollen filter housing by the way...0

I've done my googling on the leak and have already checked the pollen filter which is bone dry and the housing appears to be intact. Underneath the filter housing appeared to be wet but it looked like this the normal drain point for water that got in there.
Not had a huge amount of time to check for leaks but at least I've managed to dry up most of the water so that should help point in the right direction.0
