Faulty electric meter.

I have just tried to submit a meter reading to my supplier and been told they are inconsistant with previous ones. They are actually reading less than when I opened the account. I was told that if they entered my reading it would generate a bill of many thousands of pounds ! They are sending out an engineer to have a look.
Can anyone tell me who is responsible for the meter being faulty, and who is liable for it's replacement if required, and indeed who is liable for the bill if upheld ?
I am with NPower, have a digital meter, economy 7, currently pay £140 month.
Thanks for any help.

Hi Pieman1012,
This can all be resolved quite easily once the engineer has attended your property and checked the meter.
If the meter is faulty, we will replace this and the billing of the account will be updated. Usually, we will re bill the account based on your average usage that you have been paying for.
If you'd like me to take a look into this for you, please pop over your details to forumresponse@npower.com
Many thanks,
Adam

Ok, thanks for that, but is there any danger of the meter being correct ?!
I am not using any different appliances, and there are the same amount of people living at the property.0 -

The meter is likely to be correct, but......
given that you have mentioned "economy 7" the most likely explanation is transposition of day/night readings. Is it obvious from your meter which reading is which?0 -
I checked the readings several times yesterday and only one had changed but can't remember which one. I think it was reading number 2.0

sounds like its all billing only on the night rate thenDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Why would that make the reading less than before ?0

Welcome to the forum BTW.
You will get more meaningful help if you post the previous readings, the inconsistent readings and the readings on your meter today.0 -
Ok, will do that later when I get home. Thanks.0
