Honda CRV 1999?
Me again.....
Ok, seen a Honda CRV locally for £750, I wouldn't keep it long term, just through winter. Its a 99 plate, 150,000 miles on the clock. Last person owned it for 10 years, MOT until aug 2013 and has 6 months road tax. Any views on this? I dont do a great deal of mileage, so the MPG isnt really a problem for me short term.

I've driven a newer CR-v; 2008 plate, good cars. I'd knock the seller down to £700, and run it until the mot is up, and then see how it costs.0

I have a 21 year old honda accord? that is still working. One thing I will say that Honda are expensive on parts. The indicator bulb went some 16 years ago and that cost then £35 + vat to buy the part. It is a sealed unit, not just a bulb.
A few months later the antenna broke due to my stupidity and that cost then £195 + vat + fitting. Bought an electronic one for £19, but found the thread too short, so had to be honda.
I really like my car, the abs pump, and electronics have gone at about £1300 each, plus £300 to fit them each. some 17 years ago.
think this version has a rubber cam which should be done every 3 years - mine with a service cost 3 years ago at an independent £450
It could either be a bargain, or a endless money pit!0 -
Do they still service it? Or has it been run into the ground and now has a list of faults too long to be worth fixing so they are flogging it?
Have they looked after it? Any receipts for work done? Check the tyres.

I think that's a really good indicator. If an owner wants to save 10% on really crap tyres they're probably not going to bother with something as expensive, unimportant and time consuming as an oil change!
Regarding cost of parts; Honda parts are expensive but only proportionally to their quality, and are generally equal to or better than other parts in terms of replacement costs over the same periods of time.0 -
Car of this age and mileage . Ask for service history , should inform u if or when , timing belt or water pump done On it or anything else . Your purchased is intended to be for a short term , that's no excuse to overlook and cut corners , is it .0

They are great cars however - wife had one for a few years a while back (same age as that) and solid, quick, comfy, not bad in poor weather even on regular tyres. Based around teh Civic platform i believe witha larger body and part time all wheel drive which is more practical and useful for regular driving0
