HELP! Faulty meter??? Massive problem if not!!
I take my meter readings as regularly (usually every 6-8 weeks) so that bills are accurate as possible. I’m currently in the process of switching and luckily the new company asked for my meter reads at the same time I would do my usual checks.
I wrote them down and have come to work and am entering the details that I logged. Gas and water look normal but my electricity reading has gone from 12981 on 14th September to 43420 today.
For comparison here are my previous readings:
19th January 10930
19th March 11433
14th June 12176
14th September 12981
At this minute in time I am hoping that I have taken down an incorrect reading as it’s a new build development (4 years old) with communal entrances and meters - perhaps I've taken a reading from a neighbours meter by accident. I only have a one bedroom flat.
But if this reading is the actual reading given on my meter I’m really in bother as I need to provide the meter reads to the new company so my old provider can be settled etc.
Could this be a faulty meter? How do I go about dealing with this?

You must have taken the wrong meter reading. In 7 weeks, I doubt it would actually be possible for your house to use 31,000 KWh (ie approx 630 KWh/day) without you noticing. I am assuming here you don't have a massive cannabis farm in operation ?

I'd not panic at all and make sure you check properly when you get home this evening.0 -
vuvuzela thanks for your response.
I panicked so have come back home to check what the issue was. I had indeed written it down wrong!!
PHEWW.
BTW are you Boro fan by any chance?0 -
Was pretty sure that'd be the case. Not a boro fan, no. Rugby League more my thing. 0
