Its more of a.. 'spur of the moment' thing. If I go through with it, I wont have time to ask my manager..

in my experience 'spur of the moment' things are to be avoided, as they often end in tears because the consequences will not have been fully thought through.

at my last place despite having NO CONTACT with the general public (unless you count sales reps) you couldn't have visible tattoos (lower arms/hands), or 'unusual'/facial piercings (although the handbook stated you had to have one earring in each ear. since they didn't spcify earlobe, I had one tragus ball closure in one side and a stud in the other lobe, that 'accidentally' kept falling out...)
the weirdest thing I ever had happen was when I shaved my head for charity and came in to work with a grade 1 (couldn't go 'all the way') and EVERYONE treated me as if I was going to mug them! I'd worked there for over 3 years AND quite a few had sponsored me to do it.

I don't need to as I have real auburn hair - the point was if they let their staff have all colours of hair what's their stance on the people on the other side of the desk.

Good for you! However I feel you were once again trying to bait an argument out of me due to your dislike of dwp.

There is no stance...I for one couldn't care less what colour my clients hair is...however the fact is if an employer states that its not suitable for the workplace then I would ask them to consider changing it.

I work in LA, and am not customer facing, only deal with them over the phone. We are allowed to dress casual. My level 2 manager is a bit of a rocker, has long hair, loads of tattoos, and most days wears a vest or t-shirt, ripped jeans and cowboy boots to work, there is also a girl in my office who has bright pink hair, with purple ends (seems to be the in thing at the moment!!), and another who shaves her head and wears men's clothes! We have all sorts in my office, lol!!
Debt free and staying that way!

My hair at the moment is bright peroxide blonde with chocolate brown tips, and at the moment is short and I wear it spiked up. I'm an HCA in the NHS and my deputy ward manager commented the other day on how much she liked my hair. I have a tattoo on my wrist as well and it doesnt seem to bother them one iota and I'm pretty much 'customer facing' if you like.

They are classed as natural colors? Having a tattoo under the elbow is fine too as long as it is not offensive in anyway.

I too am a HCA and would love to have purple ends on my peroxide blonde hair but my ward manager told me I would be out the door. !!!!!! lol.. Brown ends sounds nice though hmmm.. :T

I think dress codes have relaxed a lot more in recent years, especially in reference to hair colour, dying your hair pink, red, blue.etc 10 years ago was unusual, these days it's pretty common.

As for that person who says an employer wouldn't let the females wear trousers? Surely that's not allowed? Sounds like sexism to me! If an employer told me that I'd tell em to stick it! Or just go in in trousers and if I got sacked - tribunal! lol.

I would just go for it if I was you!

I had it done in that new place in Belgrave Gate that charges one price for everything. The brown is fine as its classed as a natural colour, I had more brown added so its further along, but before my hair grew back I had special permission to wear a wig. However my ward manager has dyed hair and its a shade of blonde that is definitely not natural so as for hair dye I dont think it's a problem per se...not in my trust anyway.

I went for an interview at a jewellery store earlier in the year and was told that it was compulsory for all the women employees to wear skirts. I obviously didn't disguise the look of horror on my face as well as I'd hoped, and did mention that I normally wore (and felt more comfortable in) trousers. Needless to say I didn't get the job, despite a former work colleague of mine, who now worked for this company recommending me.

I now work for an IT company (and love it) but it's a largely male environment and I've noticed that on the rare occasions I wear a skirt or dress I do get treated differently - and not in a good way. I love the guys I work with to bits, but there's a definite sexist atittude that appears when I wear a skirt/dress.
