Firefox interrupting shutdown.exe

I have set a scheduled task to shut my computer down at a certain time each evening. It works OK but the only problem is that Firefox normally interrupts it with a message "Abnormal Shutdown". I then have the choice of either Cancel or OK, either of which causes Firefox to close and the shutdown to proceed correctly.

I really don't need Firefox to tell me this. I just want it to shut down like other applications do. Is there any way I can fix this?

you could try killing the process in a batch file/vbscript beforehand, but might get the same message

Well I switched from using Firefox to Chrome, that was one solution. But now I have the same problem with a programme called mysms. If I have time I'll have a look at your suggestion.

Unless they need to prompt for something to be saved, I don't know why programmes can't just close down when told to. I have a couple of programmes that I've written myself and if I try to close them with Ctrl + Alt + Del or with system shutdown.exe (which is what my scheduled task uses), they just close without complaint.

I'm always wary of scheduled tasks to switch computers off, particularly if they are in the middle of downloading/installing software.
If the issue is that you leave it running with programs open, in my (simple) mind, it would make more sense to do a manual shut down, or close programs when you're done with them. That way you don't risk losing data.
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

If a program contains data then I need to remember to save it first, sure. I set up shutdown.exe to give me half an hour's notice before closing down so I have plenty of time to do this if needed. But most programs don't contain any data. I'd rather not have the bother of going Start/Turn Off Computer/Turn Off every evening.
