Hey!
My little cat Jimmy recently had a urine infection and my vet is suggesting that I feed him for ever on Hill's Prescription Diet Feline c/d Reduced Calorie.
The cheapest I can find it on the net is £5.65 per kg
Before I go ahead and buy this I was wondering if anyone else uses it? Is their a cheaper but as effective alternative? Is it any good? The way the vet goes on about makes it sound like a wonder food!
I have two indoor cats so they will both eat this. I am getting the reduced calorie version as they are indoor cats.
Would appreciate any advice!
Thanks!
Dave

I found this deal and it seems good.

I'm just wondering if anyone else feeds their cat this food and how they got on with it? I'd also hate to think there was also a really effective but lower priced option that I was unaware of?
Cheers!

ETA sorry the link doesn't work?
I'd certainly leave them on what has been advised until the infection has well & truely gone.......
Moving fowards then it may be possible to find an alternative - my previous cat had kidney problems for 8+ years and was able to have a small variety in (non-prescription) foods when things were settled.
Current cats on low cal Royal Canin ...... http://www.royalcanin.co.uk/products/products/cat-products/feline-care-nutrition/light-40 - expensive if you buy in small bags (around £17 for 2kg @ pet shop) but can get 10kg for around £35 by hunting for deals which makes it much more affordable.
Can only suggest you find a list of the ingredients in what's been prescribed and compare with a few other brands? Best of luckGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

We cannot recommend a food for a specific veterinary complaint, to replace something that has been 'prescribed'. Can you see a nutritionist on your pet insurance?
Is your vet saying any Hills or that specific variant? Find out from the vet exactly what about that food he is recommending for the urine infection, it might be the particular macronutrient ratio which means you need to be careful trying a different variant in the range or a different food altogether. Or could be specific ingredients. Also ask him to explain why he recommends a dry diet for urinary problems.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Rocky has been on Hill's prescription c/d since his bout of illness- it's been perscribed to him for struvite crystals, it does something to dissolved them so if you was to swap I'd be very careful to get something else that does the same job if that's your cat's issue
we've not tried any other foods as it solved the problem and he loves it! petsupermarket usually have a good price for it but similar to what you quoted but I've not really minded as he's on 50g a day so when you work out the cost per day/week, it's comparable to feeding him whiskas.
and i do consider it a wonder food too, my baby boy was so very ill and nothing the vets could do was making it better, we spent about 1300-1500 (through insurance) on sorting out the blockages and him being so very very ill, even thought the next step would be putting him down it was so bad with no way to make it better, before it was discovered that the emergency vets we originally took him to didn't look properly and he did have crystals.
It took a few days/a week to work through his system but he's never been ill sinceLittle Lowe born January 2014 at 36+6

Hi thanks for all the advice! I think I am just going to stick with the Hiis as the vet recommended. Cheers!
