Project: Insulate House - the floors

I did my floor about 5 years ago. 18" gap which had I been younger and thinner, could maybe have used Celotex from below.
But had to take up only a few critical boards and was able to nail runners along the joists and thread in the 50mm boards and topped with loft insulation.
Then put the boards back, cleaned up the gaps and filled with standard gunk from a gun.
Then had the carpet people in using quality underlay. Then a decent carpet, and then nice Chinese type rugs.0 -
So, those last couple of responses lead me on to a question. I have draughts coming up from the edges of the laminate flooring, under the beading as the laminates do not go to the skirting board. Should I not seal these then?0

This is an interesting thread as we have just moved to a Victorian property with stripped floorboards downstairs.
However, I would be a bit concerned by the approach of some above. The idea behind the under floor void and air bricks is to allow air flow around the timbers preventing then becoming damp/rotten.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?0 -

Beading should cover the gap between laminate and skirting. If this is not the case in your house and you've got draughts, then yes, seal these with mastic, or pull the beading off and put it on without gaps.0
