debit card charges

Sorry if I am posting in the wrong section

My son has just brought some cinema tikets online with his debit card and was charged £1.50 card transaction.

Before complaining I just wondered if they had a right to charge this amount,

Thank you

  • Yes, they are entitled to make a reasonable charge for the cost of the service. You haven't said which cinema chain applied the charge but the Odeon website clearly says that there is a card handling fee of 0.75p per ticket for tickets booked by debit or credit card for the first 6 tickets booked. Maximum charge £4.50.
  • I just purchased a pint of milk for 48p in Tesco, are they able to charge this?

In addition today I was charged £4.80 by NCP for parking my car in their car park, are they able to charge this?

I am looking at claiming that I was mis-sold? Do I have a case
  • OP - where did he bring the cinema tickets from before he bought them?

He brought the tickets online for our local vue, card transaction normally only cost a few pence so if he brought 4,5 or 6 tickets online, your only ever going to be making one card payment, so why charge per ticket and not per transaction

The issues with these sort of charges is that they are often hidden or misleading. In this case as i've used this cinema, they are specifically clear when you are purchasing the tickets. If you have an issue with this then buy them at the box office and avoid the charge.

I think that's outrageous. OMG. I paid 52p in a petrol station so was definitely mis-sold this. I mean the price was there on the shelf but it wasn't explained to me. The attendant never told me it was cheaper in Tesco and I was pressured into buying it!
  • Fear not, I will be able to reclaim the price you paid for your milk, I definitely think that you were missold. The cashier should have told you the wholesale price, the price in the surrounding 5 mile radius, the price on the shelf should have been in 15 different languages including Swahili.

Then you should have been offered a cooling off period of 31 days, but don’t worry, even after 6 years of paying 52p, I will be able to claim back your money.

All i require is your sort code, and account number with a £999 deposit paid into my offshore (perfectly legitimate) account.

OP - FYI it is Bought not Brought
