Tell the insurer what happened and let them deal with the repairs. If they refuse to pay for the brake fault stating you caused it yourself then you have to pay for it.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

I think they might say that it was up to you to ensure that it was safe to move your car before you took off the handbrake, and evidently it wasn't.0

No, it's absolutely not your fault the handbrake on the other car wasn't working. Do the whole claim in one go, claim for the entire repair.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

I hope your having a laff at that reply ? If not !
yeh why not claim for whiplash as well as a dodgy brake stystem
screw the insurance for every penny you can get
how the he.. can a slight bump to the rear of the car cause the abs / brake light to come on after the bump caused several deep dig marks in the rear bumper
Unless your brake lights were broken during the bump
Which on some new cars can cause warning lights to appear
"Because I didn't start my engine I had to hit my foot brake as hard as I could to stop both cars."
yes, because you didn't start the engine the brake servo did not work which would have helped you stop the car easier0 -

You can't say how someone else will react in a rear end shunt, not everyone will react in the same way you might. The driver might be elderly, pregnant or disabled you don't know.
But the cause of the bump is still the car behind.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

I assume you read the original topic ? not the edited version
The car behind rolled into their car and if I remember correcly , it only just damaged the paintwork
I was asking how a slight nudge can somehow end up with the abs system not working0 -
Ah! I did wonder, so there's 2 different versions - now I haven't a clue what's happened

Do tell us. It's pointless having a discussion when there is another fuller version of events hidden somewhere, but edited out of the current discussion. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

WHY did the OP delete the 1st post?
Is this it?...when its handbrake failed. It has caused several deep dig marks in the rear bumper which I assume will mean replacing the whole back bumper. I didn't realise at first that my car was stopping the other car from rolling down the hill so got in my car to let it roll forward so I could see what damage there was. (Took a photo of it first thou).
As soon as I let my handbrake off my car, both cars started rolling down the hill. Because I didn't start my engine I had to hit my foot brake as hard as I could to stop both cars.
Anyway my car was still driveable but since the incident after driving a short distance both the brake light/abs light are coming on.
Will I be able to claim on their insurance for the repair of this brake fault as well as the damage to the bodywork?
Or is this the edited version?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
yes that's the original
does seem strange why they have now deleted the lot ?0
