Santander cashback card v Tesco Clubcard credit card for buying fuel

I've been buying petrol with my Santander credit card giving me 3% cashback, and I also buy it from Sainsburys so I get the Nectar points on top, but now I've got a Tesco Clubcard credit card which gives 5 points for every £4 of fuel.

Can anyone tell me which one is better? I'm thinking the Santander credit card is better as I'm getting cashback from that as well as the Nectar card points.

Thanks for any replies!

You can pay on the Santander Card and swipe your Clubcard too to get points.

You'd get 1 point per £2 spent on fuel, in addition to the Santander 3%.

So, a nectar point is worth about 0.5p. A Clubcard point is worth 1p, or 2p doubled up, or up to 4p on some deals (but often you could have got an offer on such deals - such as restaurants, anyway).

    £1 spent on fuel gives:
    A. Sainsbury's+Santander CC: 3p cashback + 1 nectar point/litre
    B. Tesco+CC Credit Card: 1.25 clubcard points
    C. Tesco+Santander CC: 3p cashback + 0.5 clubcard points.

You can easily make a clubcard point be worth 2p, so IMO option C beats option A. Option C is always better than option B unless you can make a clubcard point be worth more than 4p (you can't!).

Hence you're better off going for Tesco, collect normal clubcard points at 1 point/£2 spent on fuel, but then pay on the Santander Credit Card, assuming the petrol prices are the same.

You can present your Clubcard Creditcard to get points (1%) and then pay on your Santander card (3%).

You'd get 1 Clubcard point per £1 spent on fuel, in addition to the Santander 3%. Therefore, total cashback = 4% (see here).

    Thanks for the replies.

I only have the Tesco Clubcard credit card and not an actual clubcard if that makes any sense, so can I just hand over the credit card and say I just want the clubcard points adding onto it and then use my Santander card to pay or would I need to get a Clubcard?

The credit card can be used as a Clubcard without being used to pay for the purchase.
