Engine immobiliser problems

Hi there. I have an old Peugeot 306 which I've had for around 6/7 years, bought off my son. There has only ever been one key to this car and the button for central locking has never worked, therefore has to be opened with the key. Had trouble starting it the other day and the garage had to come and pick it up. They have told me that for some reason, the immobiliser has kicked in (didn't know it had one!), and they don't know why, but no fuel is getting through due to this and hence the not starting.
Anyone any ideas how this can be solved? They've had my car since Tuesday and I'm getting a bit desperate!
Many thanks,
Rosie x
