  • that's a complete rewire, £1700- flat. More stuff done the higher the cost.

For what you list I would be half that (or less depending on ease)

including kitchen - sockets behind each appliance, switch above.

pm me and i will send you a spec I use when rewiring.

The price you received is a bit steep around about £600 would be about right for the work stated

Hi Blade, The elctrician who undertook the work did provide me with some certified documents (as to exactly what it was - i cannot remeber its all in my safe storage lockup a mile away!).

The way i see it and its in every trade (my hubby himself is in business and his business is affected by other business/people constantly undercutting him) but the keyword he say is adapting.

My hubby does not have any ill feeling towards others that undercut him, he sees it as a challenge and works harder to win and keep his customers. From what im noticing is that in every business/trade there are so many people to buy services/products and trade from especially no we are part of europe and things coming via india and china. My hubby is constantly finding ways to cut his cost to his customers and offer a service at a reasonable price which is second to none. apparently its all about retention (so he says) !
Do a good enough job at a reasonable rate with a decent service and im sure any cust will come back for more!

Glad to hear you have been certified:D

Assuming he was Part P registered you will get your paperwork from the local council in the next few weeks. If he wasn't you should have notified them in advance and they would have checked the work as it went along.

There is (thankfully) a much better system up in Scotland, where there is no part P, but a new building standards system.
On the whole it works well (you don't have to tell them if you get a rewire, or put a socket in your kitchen, but have to get permission to do certiain works) These works mainly involve things like loft conversions, extensions etc..

They (the council) are really good and helpful, unless you pull a fly move (when I was serving my apprenticeship the contractors built a house 18inches too close to the one next door. The council nearly made them knock it down

Local council link (certifier of constrction is a bit like corgi for electricains in Scotland)

As you will see, if you have certain works done you must use a compotent person (they must be able show competence to the defentition)
