I thought that would get your attention! But no I havnt got any to give away, sorry. What i want to suggest is that we do a pooling of knowledge thing intime for the summer hols along the lines of the the cheap supermarket thing. We all share our knowledge of whats on in our local area, such as great parks, nice beaches, local festivals, free schemes? EG my sister went to yorkshire sculpture park in wakefield over easter, said it was great, free, interactive, informative. my local baths had free sessions for the kids over easter which i only found out by accident, and my friend took my daughter for free art casses at the lowry in mc. is this feasible? to have a dedicated thread?

Great idea!
Dundee area-
When your kids bring home the 'passport for summer' card from school don't bin it- have a look at the website- there are free and half price swimming sessions, and details of other pretty cheap events on in Dundee city area.
Castle Green in Broughty Ferry (free but costs a shocking 1.30 for a ride on the wee bikes!)
The Blue Seaway park and skatepark at Monifieth (free)
The Museum in Albert Square- free and has the galleries too-the musical instruments section is good-and also free:D
Camperdown park-the section down the bottom- but in summer the kids want a shot on the fairground rides too, which can prove pretty dear!
Pony riding lessons at Emmock Woods is a tenner an hour for any special treats, cheaper than Kirriemuir which is 24 pounds per hour long lesson
For wet weekends (not that there are many in Scotland in summer:rotfl: go and see an older film at 2.50 per child, who gets to bring an adult for free-Sat ans Sun morningsMember of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Just a word of warning for the Yorkshire Sculpture Park - the parking is £4 period.
Other things to do in that area are:
Weston Park Museum (Sheffield). Limited nearby parking, and so park at meadowhell and then take the tram in. We spent 4 hours there last week
Worsborough mill and country park - working mill (flour can be bought from the shop), and some excellent walks. Parking £2 for over an hour, but to make this really MSE, then go and park in the nearby wigfield farm carpark which is free. Both of these venues are on the trans-pennine trail, which in itself is great for walking and cycling.
York railway museum is free, but to avoid the citycentre parking, park at Mcarthur glen outlet village and take the bus in (children travel free with adults)
Brilliant idea for a thread - how do you sugguest we organise it into areas to prevent trawling through?0 -
If you're in/ near the Highlands: Highland Folk Museum is free for the whole of 2007. Went with the kids the other day and it was fun.0

to organise it into areas we could just make sure we write the areas in our posts? EG I would write Accrington lancashire in a post about my local baths having free sessions for kids then someone could just use the search facility? i dunno really, im not very good at things like that. maybe one of the board managers could help. but i dont even know how to contact them duh.0

Hi all
This is a great idea! I can't come up with any suggestion about how to organise the areas, though... other than put it on the 'age and location' board. I find that difficult to trawl through though, there's so much within 'England' it's difficult to know where to start.
I'll keep my eyes and ears open for free days and trips in West Yorkshire and post back if I can come up with some! I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread, for def!
