whatsapp messenger stuck on initializing screen (samsung Ace)

Can anyone help me please?
I have a samsung galaxy ace and have been running whatsapp messenger for a few months.
Whatsapp has frozen a few times during that period but an uninstall/reinstall has solved the problem with no fuss.
But today I tried to reinstall it and it gets as far as initializing, and eventually times out. It gives the message 'initializing failed' and tells me to check my internet connection (I am connected via wifi to home broadband and that is working fine) and also tells me to reboot the phone if the problem persists (I have tried this with no success).
I have googled this problem, but not found a solution.
Any ideas would be gratefully received as I have friends and family all over the world and whatsapp is our main form of communication :-(
Thanks in advance
Dx

Okay after a full day googling and trying various 'fixes' unsuccessfuly, I finally managed to cure the glitch.
For anyone else having problems with whatsapp on an android phone, this is what I did....
Google whatsapp.com
Download whatsapp for android onto pc
connect mobile with pc usb
find whatsapp.apk on pc
copy the whatsapp file ('control c' on pc)
Open the mobile (it will show as an additional drive under computer)
Paste the app into the phone (you will know it is the right place as you'll recognise other apps)
Disconnect the phone using the 'safely disconnect icon'
Go to the phone and start the app
This cleared the bug for me and got whatsapp working again.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
Thanks for this, but can you let us know which directory you have copied the apk file into?

Whatsapp was down on Sunday for several hours, its more likely your inability to connect was due to that. It was most definitely back by 1030pm.0

It needs to be in the app folder - I opened the f drive and there were other apps there that I recognised so I dropped it into there.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -

GRRRR!!!!! I wish I had known - and yes you are right, it was 10.18pm when I finally got it working again (I sent a test message to a friend at that time).
Just a query for next time - how did you know whatsapp was down, as I googled for information and visited the website, and didn't find anything about it being down - it would have saved me a lot of aggravation!
