I'd imagine if it was neatly partitioned, or on another phyiscal drive all would be safe to dual boot
Having not done it myself, you could look to some linux forums, or just teh download site and I'm pretty sure it will confirm instantly"The future needs a big kiss"0 -
You can run it from a live cd without any installation. Just a bit slow that way0

yes - use some form off defragmenting program (o&o is good) to get all your data onto the first part of the drive then use partition magic or similar (can be done in linux if you're careful) to partition the drive then install.0

You can download Ubuntu version 6.10 and burn your own disc.
Download from here:-

Instructions for burning a Ubuntu disc are here:-

You can download the livecd from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCD - just download, burn it to CD & reboot with the CD in the drive (you need to make sure your PC boots from the CD first of course). Shows you what it looks like (you won't be disappointed), & also confirms that all your hardware is recognised. Once you've had a play you can install to the harddrive using the same CD - partitioning is done by Ubuntu.0

Could it be installed in a virtual machine? I believe Microsoft have a free download of their virtual machine software here ... I have never tried loading Linux on a Virtual PC though.
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -

It seems to work OK, just download the ISO image and mount it through the MS Virtual machine menus - you don't even need to burn it to CD. The only gotcha I've had upto now is that you have to specify the VGA mode at the very first menu or half of it is missing.0 -
if you wait a few days then the new version of ubuntu will be uploaded... the one thats suppost to be better than vista
