Staining a bamboo blind?

I'm doing a cheap makeover in the bathroom and for all sorts of reasons I'm stuck with a cheap bamboo blind. Has anyone ever tried staining one to change the colour ( I want a dark wood colour) or is bamboo not porous enough? Bit of a random question and hope this is the right place to ask DIY advice.

Hmm, I' m not sure this would work.

New,dark wooden blinds are very cheap - about 10 pounds, which is probably not much more than a pot of wood stainer (unless you have a pot already).

Depends how cheap you're doing your bathroom makeover, I suppose! Maybe find a piece of bamboo in a garden centre/your garden and test it out with stainer first?

Thanks Melissa, I think I've abandoned the idea, other folks seem to think it'll take the stain unevenly. It's the fitting of a new blind that's the problem I was hoping to avoid. To be tackled another day!
