Smoke test problem
We have an Emberglow Classic fire that was installed in 1993. British Gas have carried out a survey to put in free cavity wall insulation but the surveyor said that as there is no visible vent in the closure plate to carry out the necessary smoke tests they cannot proceed. I was advised that to go ahead I would need a Gas Safe engineer present to dismantle the fire for the initial smoke test and refit the fire after the final smoke test. According to the original fitting instructions the smoke test is carried out by inserting the smoke device 25mm below the left hand edge of the draught diverter accessed under the rear of the canopy cover. I would welcome confirmation that this prcedure is still correct under Gas Safe regulations.
Best regards

the flue flow check is done by a smoke bomb in the catchment space behind the closure plate, sometimes there are air relief holes in the closure plate that the flue flue can be done through and often not. My guess would be that the insulation installers should be able to just do a spillage check as you described or alternatively gas safe registered.0
