Wedding gifts - no list - home made/crafty ideas?

Friends are having a Christmas wedding, and they have stated no gifts.

However I want to give them something :j

I am going to make a bauble with the invite in, but not sure on other ideas... Struggling mucho!

Would prefer something keepsake-y, but also tempted by a "date night" hamper or similar. I like the phatstak albums on ebay, but not sure they would use it.

Any ideas much appreciated!

  • Donation to their favourite charity?

However, if you're determined to gift something "tangible" (and I understand the desire) then stick to something usable as they are obviously trying to avoid additional "clutter".

Offer to do something practical (depending on distance from home) e.g. water their plants/feed their pets while they're on honeymoon? This then provides the opportunity to "restock the larder" before they get back - along the lines of homemade lasagnas in the freezer, cookies in the jar and fresh flowers in the vases, etc.

Plant up some bulbs for them in a nice container? You could decorate it too. It can then go out in the garden/greenhouse/shed/balcony and not clutter the home.

Craft something useful that could replace something old - cushion covers, aprons, shopping bags, pin cushions/needle books, pin/notice boards, etc. Anything that you could conceivably personalise and would be ordinarily required in the normal course of a household's cycle.

I think a date night hamper is a great idea. Chances are they may be low on money after the wedding so the makings of a good night in might be very welcome! If they genuinely want no gifts it probably means they haven't got room for things so I would avoid giving them anything that could be clutter, even if it is very thoughtful and personalised etc. You're a very kind friend! :)
  • Yeah I figured with the bauble that it would be a momento every Christmas to hang on the Christmas tree.

I did wonder about a couples advent calendar - as they will have the full month up to Christmas to use - each day have "watch a film", go for a walk holding hands etc - but something they could use when they have kids too.

.. But conscious to not clutter or junk up!

  • A memo box so that they can save some of their wedding mementos in it? You could easily make one.
