Problem when I added a BT Vision Box

I need to begin by confessing to being an absolute technical novice.

Until today I a set up in my living room of a TV, a Sky HD Digital Box and a DVD player. Recently I moved my internet service from Aol to BT and said yes to a BT Vision system when placing my order. Today I opened the various boxes. Switching the internet went suprisingly well without any problems. Then I followed the instructions to set up BT Vision which included a section on "Connect your ariel cables".

BT Vision is OK on Hdmi 1 and Sky remains fine on Hdmi 2. The DVD player still works as well.

However, previously when using the TV remote pressing 1 would show BBC1, pressing 80 would show BBC News, etc etc.
But now nothing. So I phoned the BT Vision Help line and they suggested watching the freeview channels on BT Vision. Surely the TV remote should work as before? I suspect that one or more of the many cables needs to switched from one piece of kit to another but I do not have a clue as to what to do.

My only thought is to buy an indoor ariel and connect it direct to the TV but there is now a cable that runs from the BT Vision RF Out socket to the ariel socket of the TV.

Can anyone help?

So previously you used the Freeview Tuner in your TV, and now you've got the BT Vision Box inbetween your aerial and the TV, the BT box isn't passing the aerial signal to your TV, rather imposing its own will on the process.

What do you actually want to achieve?

Are there channels you want to watch from the BT Vision box that aren't on Freeview? What do you want from BT Vision?

What on earth is the point of BT Vision?
Its Freeview you get that for free with your TV.
You already have Sky + HD which has more channels than BT Vision will ever have, as well as an catch up service.
So is it just an academic exercise?/

BTW Did they send you a YouView box?
That gum you like is coming back in style.

If you haven't already done so, you need to connect an aerial flylead from the RF output of the BT Vision box to the aerial socket on the TV, otherwise the TV won't be able to receive Freeview any more.

I also am puzzled why you want both BT Vision and Sky, given that BT Vision is usually considered a cheap alternative to Sky, with less functionality.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
