help with tariffs (first time away from home)

my boyfriend has recently moved into a one-bed flat and we're looking into what electricity and gas provider would be suitable for him. he has prepayment meters and as he as only recently turned 18, i feel it would be best for him to stay on that system of payment for now.

he is a very minimal user of both gas and electric as he is at college most of the daytime, and as of yet has no major utilities such as a cooker/washing machine so his usage is mainly his computer/fridge/freezer and the lights. we never really have the heating on so the gas is only used for hot water.

we're trying to search around for tariffs but really getting confused and getting lost under direct debit and credit rates.

can anyone help please?
just starting out comping,
good luck to all! :heart2:

Forget the computer and fridge, the bulk of his usage will be hot water and heating-unless he's planning on surviving the winter without heating?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

i don't really understand the point of your post. as a single young adult male he is willing to face a little bit of cold and put on an extra layer than spend money he doesn't have on heating that frankly isn't necessarily required.

don't understand the fridge and the computer point... his usage will probably stay there as his computer is his main source of entertainment/communication/education.

and i'm pretty sure he's gonna need the fridge.

@PasturesNew yeah, slightly, thanks. it would be useful to have the exact tariff's next to eachother to compare like you would be able to with post-pay electricity but i guess that might not be available yet. thanks!

My point is that the fridge and PC will be a fraction of the total cost. The big energy items are hot water and heating, maybe 70% of total energy usage?
He may well put on a extra pullover or two but he's still unlikely to do without any heating.
