Hey guys!
I'm looking to get a surf watch for my OH for Christmas, and I've found this one on ebay, which looks great, classic look but still has the tide whatchamacallit stuff on.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221148674715?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Thing is, I know nothing about this kind of thing! How much would you expect to pay for this item? I can't ask OH as it's meant to be a surprise!
Thanks in advance!

Have you Googled it and seen prices elsewhere to compare it against?0
-
How much are they new?0
-
I don't know the model of it, and can't find it on Google sadly, think it might be a discontinued model0

This one is fairly similar.

so is this one with a poor picture.
ovbviously depends whether white is desirable, and whether you care too much about the odd scratch0 -
Thank you! I never thought of searching comopleted listings, d'oh!0

Found one on Ebay.com as well:

This one and one of the ones found by cootuk are slightly different from the one the OP has found, they look 'crisper' and the face detail is different. In the OP's one the batons, that is the bit that shows the five minute intervals are bars whereas on this one it is a dot. Might indicate a later model or a copy. Can't really tell from the pictures.
The other problem is if this one needs a new battery then it will probably have to be done by a Rip Curl dealer otherwise the waterproofing and pressure resistance won't be maintained.0 -
Not being a watch wearer myself, I didn't think about the waterproofing and whatnot with the new battery.. Hrm. Food for thought. Thanks!0

When i take my watches for a new battery, they usually ask if i need the seal waterproofed - i think they just put in a new generic rubber gasket.
If it has been stored for ages with a dead battery, then the battery could have leaked. I would get one where at least it is confirmed running too.0 -
Hrm. The seller has said they will accept a reasonable offer...
a.) Is this against ebay rules? Never been given that option when buying before.
b.) Given its condition, and that the battery might've leaked, would I be foolish to offer on it?
c.) If it isn't a completely idiotic idea to offer on it, any ideas how much I should offer?
Thanks again!0 -
Item now has a bid on it so the offer of an offer probably won't be available any more.
I guess this is the modern equivalent of the watch in question:

Sorry OP can't be much more help. Only you can really know whether you think it's a bargain or a rip off. Presumably you're 'watching' it on Ebay.0
