Audio not working

I am having problems with Audio on my PC

"Windows Sounds" ie beeps etc are fine - but MP3's will no longer play.

I get an error "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file." when I try

My speakers are built into my monitor and the lead is connected correctly !!

CD's do play correctly

Try a different program to run your MP3s e.g. VLC media or KMPlayer?

Audio doesn't look like its the problem but WMP might be playing up.

Good idea - trying VLC now

Try downloading a new copy of Windows Media player in case your original has become corrupted.

VLC makes no difference (same problem) - also WMP appears fine - have run the update facility (nothing available)
I am stumped !!

update - I unplugged the lead from the Monitor - plugged it back in again and whooo hooo - it works - must have been a dodgy connection ??
