Warning - Wolverhampton Civic Hall / Wulfrun - Pickpockets

Went to a concert at wolverhampton wulfrun hall last night. My phone was taken from my pocket whilst standing at the front. Spoke to the duty manager who could not give a toss and claimed I was the 'the only one with a problem' and acted as if I had just lost it carelessly. However having spoken to WM Police this morning the two venues mentioned have had a spate in the previous couple of weeks. Essentially if you are going to a concert there in the future watch your personal belongings closely and maybe leave your phone at home if you can...

So now when we're in a public area surrounded by crowds we have to take care of our personal belongings?

    What next?

    well duh...

Just as these venues have a particular problem currently thought it might be nice to notify people. You know WARN them, seeing as the board title is praise, vents and WARNINGs

Whilst I'm sure you have the best intentions giving this warning, it is almost akin to me posting a warning that states don't put your hand in a naked flame as it will burn you.

It is unfair to single out the Civic Hall/Wulfrun however as every venue that hosts gigs and concerts or indeed anywhere where you are in close proximity to people in a large crowd will have the danger of pickpockets.

I'm glad the police took you more seriously than the event manager.
  • This sort of thing is a problem all over the country - gangs of people travel up and down the country attending gigs and picking pockets (particularly busy gigs that are likely to be full of young people with flash phones jumping up and down and jostling around who won't notice a hand going into their pocket). A lot of venues put signs up warning people that the gigs are targeted by pick pockets or even hand out little reminders cards to punters as they enter. It's a sad fact that we all have to be very careful with our valuables or we'll soon be parted!
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!

    All over Europe, in fact!

I had a laptop with operationally sensitive information nicked from a locked management office at one of Europes largest events last year.

I've still not seen the laptop again, but nothing I've pitched has come it!

Was to be honest - It's why I was surprised for it to have happened! The band are called Sabaton not particuarly well known over here. Been going to metal gigs for years, I expect it at festivals not at small (ish) gigs I always think of my phone as not very MSE but its paid off...

No advertising rule, although I'm not sure it counts as advertising.

I've been on the music circuits for years, and we said the other week; the one that we're about to be managing is one of the largest in Europe, whereas some of the others we do barely break even.

It's completely swings and roundabouts in the music world at the moment.
