Help tracking down proof of no-claims (car insurance)

My Girlfriend swapped insurers (to Churchill), having got a years free insurance through Vauxhall.
The new insurance premium was based upon her having 3 years no-claims.
Unfortunately she has no record(And more importantly, she can’t remember
) of the insurer prior to the years free with Vauxhall - so there is no proof for 2 years of no-claims, and the premium has shot up through the roof!
Only thing I can think of is to dig out the phone book and ring up each of the insurers to find out. . . (I'll make that our last resort)
Is there an easier way to track down the insurer?

Will Vauxhall have that info from when they first insured her?
Failing that, have a root round in the car etc - insurers usually send out bits of tat like cards / tax dic holders - might offer a clue?"It was not my intention to do this in front of you. For that, I'm sorry. But you can take my word for it, your mother had it comin'."

Failing all the above, maybe these people can help, providing you can prove you owned the vehicle that was insured:

They really help with people who have had accidents caused by uninsured drivers. But they have access to the motor insurers database, so if you can prove you owned a car they may provide the info on who your insurance was with.0 -
Good suggestion, Paul. I am really surprised that she can't remember who she was insured with, only one year ago! Presumably she hasn't got any records, like credit card bills, bank statements, cheque stubs, etc. from two years ago either?0

I think there may be a problem with my suggestion as I think the database may only show the most recent insurer! Anyway, worth a check if all else fails!0
