solicitor call

Hi all, today I had a call from a solicitor saying that I owed bg money just over £86, however I had no knowlage of this.
I have said I want proof of this and they said they will send me the final bill from march 2011 for this amount.
I have contacted bg and they have said I dont owe them anything.
I then phoned this solicitor saying what bg had said but they insisting that I owe it evan though i was on a prepayment meter.
How can I deal with this?

thanks

I had this with British Gas. I emailed them a complaint and said it is ridiculous to suggest I owe anything when on a prepayment meter. I pointed out that to get gas to use I had to pay up front. Therefore any gas used had been paid for.

They emailed back that it was a mistake so having it in writing I just forwarded the email to the debt collection agency (solicitor) and they never wrote again.

I have kept the email though just in case
Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.

If BG say you owe nothing but a company you have never heard of says you owe BG £86 I would go with what BG say.

Ask for it in writing from BG if you want.

Any company randomly calling me saying I owe money/am entitled to money I ignore. They will soon ask for card details and who knows what happens next.

I would be dubious personally. A solicitor would be more likely to write than call out of the blue I suspect. I'd do nothing unless they call again, if they do ask for written proof of this claimed debt

I have asked for proof, they said they will send me the final bill, but I understand wt yr saying.
I was thinking that Evan if I did owe it would the back billing rule apply?

under the old system of pre-pay meters it was perfectly possible to run up a debt on a such a meter. It occured when there had been a price increase and the meter hadn't been adjusted to the new prices.

However I believe BG agreed to write off any debit caused by that reason.
