Can anyone confirm a bankruptcy definitely disappears after 6 years?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I haven't been able to find the exact answer, so I apologise in advance if this is a duplicate!

I keep reading about the "6 year cut off", whereby things drop off your credit report after 6 years.. Thing is, some people say this is 6 years from the date of bankruptcy, some say it's 6 years from the date of discharge and some say something else entirely!

What I would love to know is, has anyone actually been in this situation, and can confirm what happened for them? As in, can you let me know exactly when your bankruptcy disappeared from your credit report altogether? Did it disappear from all 3 credit agencies at the same time?

My fiancee and I are about to buy our first house.. I was declared bankrupt on 6th December 2006, so I am desperate to know if this will disappear on 6th December this year, or whether we will have to wait until next.. Or worse!

If anyone can let me know their exact experience, we would appreciate it so, so much :)

Thanks..

I can conform from personal experience that it is 6 years from the original BR date.

Experian/callcredit it is 6 years to the day. Equifax as usual drag their feet for a short while, but it does go within a few days/weeks.

thanks so much - this has really helped set my mind at ease.. my credit report is flawless, apart from this ruddy bankruptcy - it is dated 6th december 2006, as are all of the associated defaults, so i am now pretty hopeful that they will all disappear in 6 weeks or so :D

Do remember though that if asked by the lender specifically if you have ever been bankrupt then you do still need to declare it

but if it gets stricken from the record, how will they ever know?

i mean, i know morally one is supposed to, but in reality is there any point bringing it up if there is no longer any record or it??

It stays in the London Gazette records forever so the mortgage company can check that any time they want.

If any banks etc were creditors they can find out from their own records.

This not a moral issue, if it asks specifically have you ever been BR and you answer no then you are committing fraud.

Was it fraud that led to your bankruptcy in the first place?

That's the sort of 'personal' question best left to the motoring board.

The OP's post and response was probably borne more out of ignorance of the subject matter than anything else........so nothing more than that should be read into things.

i am preparing a letter that i can send to the credit agencies in the eventuality that my BR doesn't disappear come "drop off day". i don't suppose you can point me in the direction of an official web page/document/something that says that BRs should definitely disappear 6 years from the date of declaration, could you?

    many thanks :)
