Emailing buyers

Hi,

I sold an item two days ago. The winning bid was £34 but I havent been paid and I think I read a post by ? Soolin not to contact buyers. Am I right in thinking that I cant open a cse until 4 days have elapsed and then offer a second chance to the next buyer down.

I dont understand if there was a bidding war that the successful bidder doesnt want to pay for it there and then.

I assume you have already sent an invoice?

If so wait another day or two and then send an invoice again (assuming you really want to make contact to give buyer a chance) and add a note to invoice to say they need to contact you if they require any further payment assistance. If that doesn't work just open an NPB anytime after day 4.

  • Buyers remorse possibly? I know that the one time I won an auction after a bidding war, I realised that I'd overpaid for the item and was pretty angry at myself for letting myself get drawn into it.

Now I just put in my max bid and walk away.

    Good Luck getting it resolved.

Two days is within the time eBay give someone to pay, so don't pester them - what I would do on day 3 is send another invoice and then open a dispute.

So far since the dispute timetable came down to 4 days/4 days everyone has paid by day 3 so I wouldn't worry quite yet.

I'm afraid folk who are plain lazy and selfish are also using eBay.

After 4 days, I recently set a NPB in motion and they paid within minutes...

Then I received a terse message asking for immediate despatch, because they needed it for the weekend!

So why mess around delaying the payment?

I normally wait 7 days to file a NPB - but i was going away. So i sent a reminder after 3 days and filed a NPB after 5.

Within seconds i got an abusive email calling me an impatient rude seller and that he was away and had just come back.

If only i had waited 5 minutes mores for his holiday to end :rotfl: Funny how they have always "just get back" the second you email them.

Therein lies the reason - if I'm not using eBay for a while I might bid and forget - and there have been times when I have left it a couple of days - not so as I'd get a dispute raised though.

I'm normally on the forums a lot but that said I no longer post with my buying ID - I find it easier to demonstrate I'm a seller, given some of my opinions - and so I'm seldom off eBay.

I don't think I'd demand that of the seller but I don't tend to question NPBs too closely for that reason - I'm aware that it's possible to make a mistake. I'd just send out immediately after payment anyway.

Just after the no-negs-for-buyers rule came in I left a neg for a seller who was uncommunicative in the extreme and that happened almost immediately. Whichever way round it is it does tend to be a bit ridiculous.

  • eBay sends a payment reminder after "a couple of days" if payment isn't made, I'm not sure if this is opt in or opt out but can be edited here:

Personally I would turn off the payment reminder, allow buyers 3 or 4 days then send another invoice, on day 7 do the NPB process and close it when ever you can, if no result at each step.

Some folks don't log in every 5 minutes, some find their card on Paypal is no longer valid (some let you know, I guess some just can't be bothered) and some just buy stuff but then disappear, even some with hundreds of feedback.

All you can do is wait and follow the NPB if no joy but personally I wouldn't be too over eager. I understand it's a pain with auctions, particularly those ending on a good price, but you can always relist which is better than low stars/bad feedback from a buyer who felt the seller was too pushy for payment.

What annoys me the most about people not paying straight away, isn't really getting the money off them, it's the inconvenience of not knowing when they are going to pay, as I like to post everything the day after I receive payment or the same day if it ends early enough or they pay early enough for me to get to the post office. I don't go out everyday, so if I do go out it's usually an effort for me, as I have various ailments which sometimes restricts me going anywhere. So if I sell a few things ending on the same day, then one person pays immediately, one pays the second day after 5.30pm, the other pays the day after again at 6pm, then another pays 4 days later, I end up having to go out 4 days in a row as I don't actually know in advance when the later payers are going to pay. I have a 2 day dispatch but almost always get them out within a day, and I don't like to make the people who have paid promptly wait 2 days just so I can wait for the others to maybe pay me the next day. It's annoying. I wish people would just either pay immediately or email me to let me know when they will pay, that way I can at least save myself some trips to the post office just to post one parcel. I don't mind letting people wait an extra day for dispatch if they made me wait an extra day or more for payment ;) but I bet as soon as they hit that payment button, they imagine me trotting off to the post office straight away, and would be annoyed if they knew I was going to post it a day or two later ;)

Well she still hasnt paid and she has until tomorrow night. I really wish I could offer it to the second person now but I think that`s against the rules! Pity! As solmeone else said I will now have to wait another 4 days for the money which is really irksome.
