I have Spybot and Ad aware also but whilst adaware ALWAYS picks up some things, Spybot NEVER does - but I dont believe it. How to check it's really done it's job?:o

Hope you are not using AVG Anti Virus and Avast at the same time.

I am indeed, and no error message came up saying there was a conflict.

    Is this a problem??

I think everyone here would agree that you're not meant to use two anti-virus apps at once. It's the same thing with software firewalls, you're only meant have one installed at any one time. They can seriously conflict with each other as they're not designed to be run with multiple instances, the fact you aren't getting error messages doesn't neccessarily mean they aren't conflicting.

    EDIT: beaten to it.

why if I run Spyboot and while scanning my PC suddenly turns off? not sure to open a new thread for this question.

Use AVG, it's good because I schedule it to scan daily. Nothing found in many months. Also weekly use the AVG spyware scan, it's a pain because I have to remember to do it :D

Also use clean up prog mentioned here and defrag regularly. MS defender always tells me things are just great :T

Funny symptoms on 'puter recently (separate thread) Today after reading this thread, downloaded A2 free EMSI software. It seems to have already found a Trojan something or other

I just don't understand. I really thought I was fully protected. Seems the spyware does not cover everything from what you all say here.

 I really cannot take much more. Is there nobody that can invent a package (free of course) that can cover everything at once AND schedule itself to run automatically. Do I reallly need to run 3 separate checks to defend my computer.

If Vista could promise me it would defend, mantain and backup my computer automatically, I would seriously consider changing. My best efforts no longer seem to be good enough and it gets me down when I find a problem and have to devote time to sorting it out. I just need something simple that works

To all you helpful techies, I probably display an ignorance of computers and it is true, not my field. Sorry for the rant

I am sure you are all dying to hear the next instalment:-

Despite my regular checks and thinking I was well and truly protected, have just found a TROJAN DOWNLOADER, HEURISTIC DIALER AND RISKWARE RISK in the scan. Now deleted, I hope.
